Alice in Wonderland

There is a syndrome called 'Alice in Wonderland'.

The syndrome was named in honor of "Alice in Wonderland" author Lewis Carroll, who suffered from migraines. It's believed that much of Alice's experience came from Carroll's own migraine auras.

Most reports are about children experiencing AIWS symptoms, though many people experience it in later life. Many people say they had AIWS symptoms as a child, but 'grew out' of them around their teens.

Woman in the Garden

Beside the Bird theme, Woman is another theme I paint. Maybe is because I'm a woman.

There are many ways woman to be beautiful beside what the media shows of 'sexy/beautiful'.

My family went on a vacation last week and in the hotel lobby, three ladies were wearing bikinis.

My son and daughter saw that and they said "mommy..look embarrassing..no clothes".

I made a collage mixed media painting of my kids for my father-in-law's birthday present.

He doesn't get to see the kids often as he likes to.

We are about 6950 miles apart (found at google map).

Hope he likes it as much as I enjoyed making the painting.

Fine art or Illustration

Fine art or Illustration ... that is the question. I am not new to hearing that my style is very illustration from fine art galleries and from directors of illustration used to tell me that my style is too much of fine art. Where do I belong? I'm not sure where to categorize my style, but as long as I do what I enjoy to do...that's all that matters to me.

Opening a blog account was something very new and challenging event (?) for me.

I am a very self-kept person.

Opening up and talking about my thoughts and sharing my arts with other people isn't everyday life scene for me.

But here I am now uploading my art and talking about it.

My son got busy with stamps and ink pads on his sister when I stepped out of my studio for couple of minutes. And my daughter was posing for her brother's masterpiece.

I get my inspirations from my family, especially my son and daughter. They give me a great inspirations and ideas. To all mommy artists and crafters out there, let's doodle and create and be HAPPY~~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blossom

I took some photo classes back in college. I loved the process of developing films and printings.

After college, I stopped walking around with cameras. A few year later when I grabbed the camera, it reminded my love for photography. Mainly I grabbed the camera to capture the moments for my children and it brought my love for photography once again .

Birds and Flowers

There is something about bird and flower theme that I just can't get away (?). I'm not a person who loves to garden day and night. Many times, I don't know the names of the flowers. I guess I know little more about the birds. I used to hand fed birds. My family ran a pet store. After closing the store for the night, they brought baby birds home everyday. Baby birds need special cares just like human babies. They need to be fed every 4 hours. They have to be heated to the right temperature. I fed and tamed the birds. Maybe that's what makes me feel comfortable and drawn to bird and flower themes.

Finally Internet in my home~

We moved to our new home a couple of months ago. Since it's a new town, it took forever to receive the internet service. During that time I travelled 20 miles back and forth to check my e-mail. But couldn't up load any of my paintings or pictures. If it was an argent matter, I drove to Panera Bread with my two kids and my husband. A little e-mail check outing. It's surprising to look back that people were happy without the internet just about two decades ago.

My daughter is winking one of her eye saying she is a pirate. More unpacking to do.

Ballerina Series

I visited children's furniture store with my husband a few days ago and there were some stuff I wanted to get for my kids.
The items I liked were big kids stuff, which I have to wait a few years for that.
Anyhow, seeing kids furniture inspired me to paint wall art for children's room.
I wanted to paint something that I wanted to hang in my kids room.

Two love birds

I painted this piece to sell about 6 months ago.
Well..it's hanging in my daughter's room.
When I was painting this one, she came up to me and
said "Mommy, It's pretty. I like it". She was about 18 months old at that time.
I asked "Do you want this?". She nodded.
I have more paintings in my son and daughter's room with similar stories.
My son is three and half years old.
He only uses artist quality paints, brushes, and papers.
When I give him his age art supplies....he simply doesn't accept that.
His favorite medium is...Acrylic.

Butterflies (Series 1 & 2)

Nowadays, I am trying to paint happiness, joy, and love.

Top one is 20' x 30' and the bottom one is 18' x 24' .

I would love to do bigger ones, but with two toddlers...that's TOO risky.

Back in college I used to do 30' x 40' ~ 50' x 70' .

Now you know how much I LOVE big sized canvas.

Being a mommy changes everything. From eating all the way to your canvas size. And of course your tv programs. I don't know when was my last time to watch Oprah. If I switch the program channel, my son and daughter starts jumping up and down (not because they are excited). Even if many things changed, being a mom is a wonderful gift from the Lord.

Children's book style Illustration

Once, I was very much interested in children's book style illustration. When my son was about eight months old, I sat him in a high chair and gave him a bowl of cheerios and work on this painting. My son was so happy and busy eating cheerios, he sat by me and let me work on it. Which is impossible thing to do nowadays~ He will let me hold a brush for 2 seconds and it's his time to work on his master pieces on my desk..of course his sister joins him.

Arts and Crafts / Arts or Crafts

Back in college, students were very much encouraged to paint with oils. In fact, that was the only medium we used in painting classes all through senior year. I always wished that school offered some sort of mixed media class for students to explore with many mediums and techniques. One studio class I took during my junior year, I was able to use different mediums other than oil. I tried inks, watercolors, glitters, papers, and yarns. That was my first time trying to do some kind of mixed media art.
I did fine arts(?) as my major and did crafts(?) as my hobby. I made cards, pressed flowers, frames, and wall arts. But it never clicked that it doesn't have to be divided into two. When I go to the bookstore to grab some arts magazines, I first start browsing fine arts magazine such as Art in America and I end up buying Cloth Paper Scissor and bunch of Somerset studio magazines. One day I told my sister about that and she said to me..."But that's what you like". Oh~ya...that's what I like. I like to look and read all about it and get amazed how talented they are.
About a year ago, I really tried mixed media not just as my hobby, but to bring it onto the canvas. At first I knew what I wanted to do in my head, but transferring it onto a canvas was very challenging. Not knowing much about mixed media.
I'm still trying and learning and having a good time~

My painting theme

After I gained a title called 'Mom', many things has changed including my painting themes and styles.
I do many series of 'Mother and Child/Children'. I have been painting this series for about 3 years now.
My motivation started from wanting to express my love and joy being a mother and it become one of my series theme.
Sometimes I do face hard time letting go of the paintings, especially with 'mother and child/children' ones.

New Years Resolution

I used to have New Years Resolution or perhaps New Years Resolutions.
I stopped making New Years Resolutions about eight years ago.
Why? I never keep it. I may try to do it for a few days and I tell myself...'What was I thinking? exercising everyday? not eating chocolates?' and somehow I convince myself to forget about it.

As far as my knowledge goes... Love bird species can't be alone. That's how they got their name 'Love Bird'. Once I had a love bird named 'Pink Lemonade '. He/She (can't tell the difference unless do the blood test done) was bright orange, pink, and green all over. So my younger sister named her/him pink lemonade. I hand fed the bird. It was very well tamed and loved eating cheerios on my shoulder. After leaving home for college, 'Pink Lemonade' found a new person to be loved by.
